2018-2019 Preschool Information Sessions

All parents/families of children 3-5 years old are invited to attend a preschool information session on January 23, 2018. Sessions will be at 11:00 a.m. at the Tewksbury Public Library and again at 6:30 p.m. at Tewksbury Memorial High School. Next year, we have preschool opportunities at both the Heath Brook School and the Dewing School. Each information session will explain what those preschool options in Tewksbury are for next year. We will also explain how and when to sign your child up for preschool. Parents should check the Tewksbury Integrated Preschool tab for  more information about next year’s options. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Dewing Faculty Changes in the New Year

The Dewing School has two pieces of good news to share.
First, we are happy to announce that Mrs. Sarah Yore will become an elementary mathematics coach for the Tewksbury Public Schools, serving the Dewing (who loves her best), Heath Brook, North Street and Trahan schools. She will join Heidi Reinhart, Michelle Dick, Lisa Bailey and STEM Director Jason Stamp at Center School in January, after completing term 2 grades for her students.
Our second piece of good news is that Mrs. Joanne Garvey has been hired to replace Mrs. Yore as the classroom teacher for homeroom B7. Mrs. Garvey currently serves the Tewksbury district half-time as a teacher for English Language Learners, having worked in Tewksbury since 2015. Before that she served Lynn Public Schools as a curriculum supervisor and 3rd grade teacher, then five years as a 1st grade teacher for Lawrence Public Schools.
Mrs. Garvey will join the Dewing full time on January 2nd. The first two weeks of the year she’ll be leading ACCESS testing for our ELLs (English Language Learners), then will join Mrs. Yore in B7 just after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. Each teacher will then solo in her new assignment beginning January 22nd.
We are fortunate to have such talented educators working for this community.

Sofia Rossetti Dewing Principal for the Day

Dewing Elementary School‘s Principal for December 18th was Miss Sofia Rossetti.
Thanks to her parents’ donation to the Tewksbury Education Foundation (with a silent auction bid), Sofia led the school’s morning announcements, visited classrooms, invited two friends and her brother to lunch in the office, introduced Ms. Bridgford at the opening of our school music concert (parent concerts are Tuesday), delivered school supplies to teachers, greeted friends, teachers and students in the hallway, and led dismissal. She decided that the principal’s walkie talkie was a bit heavy after a while and gave it to her assistant (me) to hold. She was gracious, kind, and smart.   Nicely done, Miss Sofia!

Dewing Families turn out for PAC McTeacher Night

Dewing Staff members were all smiles as they greeted Dewing students and their families at PAC Dine-Out night at the McDonald’s near Oakdale Plaza on November 6th.

Many thanks to Robyn Hakala, Mary Lazzara, Heather Grace, Denise Sokolowski, Joanne Garvey, Cheryl Barnes, Joanne Evangelista, Stacey Finnegan, Ann Mary Theisen, Amanda Reardon, Teresa Molea, Sarah Gillotte, Amanda McCarthy, Shelley Wrobel, Sarah Yore, Beth Daley and Jan Fuller.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR 10/31/17

Good morning Dewing families,

We are fortunate to have complete power and a facility ready for our staff and students to return to this morning.

Our friends and colleagues at the Heath Brook School are not as lucky.  There is still no power at that school.

We have made the decision to combine classes with the folks at Heath Brook today.  Their staff and students will be arriving by bus shortly after the start to the school day, and will remain with us for the day, or until power is restored at the Heath Brook, whichever comes first.  Almost all K, 1, and 2 classrooms will share their space with a class and teacher from Heath Brook.  We’ve adjusted our master schedule, including lunches and recess (thank goodness we can go outside to play!), plus specialists.

It’s going to be a bit cozy, so we’ve decided to postpone K – 2 Halloween celebrations until tomorrow (hoping that our Heath Brook colleagues and friends will be back at their school by then). I apologize to the disruption to the schedules of parents who were planning to come to the Dewing today – I’m trying to simplify things as much as possible.

Please be patient with us, as some of our routines are bound to be changed a bit today.  It may take us a bit more time to respond – but together we will make a fun memory for our children.

Terry
