Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

We are looking forward to an exciting and productive school year as the summer comes to a close.  As we rise to the challenges of remote and hybrid learning, our goal is to produce informed, creative, and versatile students who are well-prepared for their secondary school experience.  Through the use of this website,  e-mail, and Twitter, we will be able to update you on important events and deadlines as well as keep you abreast of the many wonderful activities that take place here at our school.  This communication is vital in establishing a partnership with parents and guardians that will assist our students in reaching their full academic potential.

Welcome to Wynn Middle School,

Both parents and students should read and refer to the school’s handbook for policies and procedures.

Below are some of the areas I have highlighted to ensure a safe and productive school year.

Early Release Days

On Early Release days the Wynn Middle School will dismiss students at 10:50 a.m.

Below are the scheduled early release days for the 2018-19 school year:

November 27, 2019; December 5, 2019; January 17, 2020, February 14, 2020; March 13, 2020; April 17, 2020; May 14, 2020; May 22, 2020; June 19, 2020 (tentative last day of school)

Parent Drop-Off in the Morning

If you drive your child to school, it is important that you follow the appropriate traffic pattern:

As you approach the school, turn right and drive down the side of the building past the gym entrance and turn around at the end of the driveway near the dumpsters.

Then drive up the same side so that your child is dropped off from the passenger side of the vehicle along the sidewalk around the building. You may let your child out anywhere from the side gym entrance forward, but your child must walk along the sidewalk to the front door. Please pull all the way forward to the stop sign.

DO NOT drop off on the field side so that your student must cross through the drop-off traffic. This poses a serious safety risk. Staff will be monitoring this area.

In order to assist the flow of traffic, we encourage that students exit cars upon arrival and wait in front of the building. In cases of inclement weather, students may be allowed to wait inside the lobby.  Otherwise, students will not be allowed to enter school until 7:25 unless attending extra help sessions.

Being on time is an important life skill that we are trying to encourage and develop with our students.  Your cooperation in helping to promote this is greatly appreciated.

Tardy Policy at the Wynn Middle School

  • Students must be in their homeroom seats at 7:40 a.m. If tardy, students must obtain an admission slip from the office. Tardy students should also bring a note, have a parent call, or have a parent accompany him/her to the office.
  • Please be aware of the following disciplinary actions regarding tardies within one quarter:
  • At three (3) tardies a student will receive an office detention.
  • At six (6) tardies a student will receive a Friday detention from 2-4 p.m.
  • For each additional two (2) tardies a student will receive another Friday detention.
  • If a student fails to report to Friday detention he/she will be suspended for the next school day.
  • A student will receive an excused tardy only if he/she has a doctor’s note or if the bus has been delayed.

School Buses

Pupils who use school buses are subject to school rules while on the bus and at bus stops. Riding the school bus is a privilege which may be suspended whenever a student fails to follow bus rules. Severe or continuous misbehavior may result in permanent bus suspension.

Students should be at their stop 5 minutes prior to scheduled pick-up. Buses leave school on or about 2:05 p.m.

There are now late buses on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays that leave from school at approximately 3:35 p.m. if a student stays for an activity, detention, or extra help.

Students are not allowed to switch buses except for extenuating circumstances. In such cases, requests must be made in writing and permission must be granted from the administration and/or the transportation director.

Rules For Bus Conduct

  • Students must obey all directions of the bus driver quickly and courteously;
  • Students may not throw any objects in or out of the bus;
  • Students may not open windows or doors without the driver’s permission or put arms, head or hands outside the windows;
  • Students may not do anything which will disturb or distract the driver;
  • Horseplay or rough-housing is forbidden;
  • Students must pay for any damage that they have caused on the bus;
  • Students may not open emergency exit doors unless instructed to do so by driver;
  • Stairwells and aisles must be kept free of musical instruments and other large objects;
  • Students must remain seated;
  • Eating and/or drinking are not allowed;
  • The use of any tobacco products is forbidden;
  • The use of obscene or inappropriate language is forbidden

Bullying Prevention

  • All adults at our school are actively involved in keeping a careful watch on student behavior in regards to bullying and reporting all instances of suspected bullying.
  • The district has developed a Bully Reporting Form which is used by all staff members.
  • This office thoroughly investigates every report and takes appropriate steps as needed, which are then recorded on an Action Form and kept on file in my office.
  • Parents are encouraged to utilize the Bully Reporting Form or to call guidance or my office to report suspected acts of bullying.
  • Students are also encouraged to report bullying either by using the form or by dropping an anonymous note in the mailbox outside of the guidance office.
