Arrival & Dismissal
Arrival:
- The school hours for grades K-2 are 8:45 a.m.-3:05 p.m.
- Teacher supervision at the Heath Brook School begins at 8:25 a.m. Students should not be dropped off at the school prior to this time.
- Students arriving between 8:25 – 8:40 a.m. may play outdoors weather permitting. During inclement weather they proceed to the cafeteria.
- Opening exercises begin at 8:45 a.m. Any student entering school after 8:45 a.m. is considered tardy. When a student is tardy, it is requested that the parent either accompany the child to school or send a written excuse.
- It is encouraged that students use bus transportation.
Dismissal:
- Regular dismissals time is 3:05 p.m.
- There are times when a student may have to be dismissed early. To obtain permission for an early dismissal, the student must bring a note from home stating the requested dismissal time and the authorized adult who will meet and sign out the child.
- Children cannot be picked up from the walker or bus lines without being properly signed out. Teachers on duty will ask that you please come into school to sign the student out properly.
- Telephone dismissals are discouraged except in extreme emergencies.
- If it is expected of the school to enforce orders or restrictions such as court -ordered custody/guardianship or temporary/permanent restraining orders, a copy of the document must be on file at the school.
- It is encouraged that students use bus transportation.
Closing of School
- If a parent is not home in the event of an emergency “early school dismissal”, we ask parents to designate a “safe home” along the same bus route, for their child/children to go to in the neighborhood. Parents of students who walk to school are advised to take the same precautions. We recognize that many parents are necessarily away from home during the day. We strongly suggest that children have a safe alternate home to go to and that you regularly remind your child of this fact during the school year.
Visitors
- Visitors are welcome at our school. To minimize interruption and to assure the safety of all our students, all parents/guardians and visitors must stop at the principal’s office to sign in and obtain permission. A visitor’s pass is required to proceed anywhere in the building.
- Please remember to sign out and return a visitor’s pass before exiting the building.
- Any parent, guardian, or concerned citizen who will be volunteering or chaperoning a field trip must complete a CORI form. CORI forms are available at the school office and must be returned to the Heath Brook School.
Student Drop-Off
- Please remember vehicles should not be entering the driveway in front of the school in the morning between 8:25 – 8:40 and in the afternoon between 2:45 – 3:15. Please be considerate.
- If you wish to walk your child into school, please park in a designated spot. Do not park/leave your car in the drop off area as it holds up the flow of traffic for parents dropping students off.
