{"id":910,"date":"2017-05-04T14:54:57","date_gmt":"2017-05-04T18:54:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tewksbury.wpengine.com\/high\/?page_id=910"},"modified":"2017-05-04T15:01:09","modified_gmt":"2017-05-04T19:01:09","slug":"proposed-high-school-building","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.tewksbury.k12.ma.us\/high\/resources\/general-information\/proposed-high-school-building\/","title":{"rendered":"New High School Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Why the Need Now?&#8230;<\/h3>\n<p>The aging condition of our high school makes it very difficult for our children to receive the education they <strong>deserve and need to compete and succeed in the 21st century.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2005, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) concluded that the current <strong>TMHS DOES NOT MEET ACCREDITATION STANDARDS.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NEASC wrote, &#8220;<em>Every year this problem is not addressed increases the magnitude of the eventual negative impact on teaching and learning.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This was confirmed by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) who thoroughly evaluated our high school in 2007. They concluded TMHS showed the <strong>GREATEST NEED for a new high school<\/strong>. We were fortunately selected for the NEW Model School program.<\/p>\n<p>MSBA has already set aside the funds for our new high school. Money spent is reimbursed every 30 days!&#8230;GUARANTEED!<\/p>\n<p>MSBA will reimburse us <strong>a guaranteed minimum reimbursement rate of 60.06%<\/strong> of the project cost (actual rate determined by the final design&#8230;certain &#8216;green&#8217; criteria result in higher reimbursement rates).<\/p>\n<p>FAILURE to ACT NOW will bump us out of the Model School Program, cause us to lose any reimbursement, and any chance for a new high school. The money set aside for us will go to another community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our opportunity for a new high school will be gone for the foreseeable future.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; McKee Associates (SMMA) to evaluate the educational needs, space and code requirements and conditions of the town\u2019s schools.<\/p>\n<p>July 2006:\u00a0Tewksbury submits Statement of Interest (SOI) to Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA)<\/p>\n<p>September 2006:\u00a0 SMMA delivers Master Plan Study to Tewksbury Long Range Planning Committee.<\/p>\n<p>November 2007:\u00a0 MSBA accepts Tewksbury Statement of Interest.<\/p>\n<p>May 2008:\u00a0 Town Meeting votes appropriates 1.3 million for Feasibility Study.<\/p>\n<p>January 2009:\u00a0 Tewksbury High School Building Committee (HSBC) and MSBA select and approve Owners Project Manager (OPM) Heery International, Inc.<\/p>\n<p>February 2009:\u00a0 MSBA accepts Tewksbury into the Model School Program<\/p>\n<p>January to August 2009:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Building Committee tours Model Schools in Hudson, Ashland and Whitman.<\/li>\n<li>Building Committee, MSBA and Heery complete enrollment validation and confirm educational space summary<\/li>\n<li>Building Committee and Heery perform preliminary Geotechnical site borings to investigate subsurface conditions to assist in location of proposed building.<\/li>\n<li>Building Committee and Heery perform existing conditions land survey for property lines, location of wetlands, utility and infrastructure services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>September 2009:\u00a0Building Committee and Heery prepared and performed request for proposals and interviews for architect selection.<\/p>\n<p>September 15, 2009: Building Committee selects Symmes Maini &amp; McKee Associates as the Architect subject to contract agreement and execution.<\/p>\n<p>December 2009: SMMA completes Schematic Design, adapting the Hudson High School Model to Tewksbury&#8217;s site and educational needs.<\/p>\n<p>January 8, 2010: Schematic Design, Educational Program, and Cost Estimates are submitted to MSBA for final project approval.<\/p>\n<p>January 27, 2010: MSBA approved the TMHS Schematic Design.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Project Schedule<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Tewksbury<\/strong><strong> Memorial High School<\/strong><strong> &#8211; Next Steps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I.)\u00a0 <u>Schematic Design Phase<\/u><\/strong> &#8211; September 2009 to March 2010 (Next 120 days)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><u>September 2009<\/u>:\u00a0 Finalize Architect Contract Negotiations and Issue Notice to Proceed.<\/li>\n<li><u>October to November 2009:<\/u>\n<ol>\n<li>Review and confirm educational and program with Tewksbury Public Schools<\/li>\n<li>Prepare schematic design to include items such as:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>building floor plans<\/li>\n<li>building elevations<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>iii.site layout of building, driveway &amp;
