What Do Dewing School Teachers Think of the Adopt-A-Classroom Program?
"All of the parental generosity and commitment to the 22 kids in my first grade classroom during the 2008/09 school year has been phenomenal! Through the AAC program I have been able to enhance the learning environment in many ways. Our literacy program has been boosted by a CD/tape player, CD/book sets, individual tapes for oral reading to develop fluency skills, classroom library selections, and reading center activities. We now have much needed
basic classroom supplies such as a wooden mailbox system, heavy duty pencil sharpener, heavy duty staplers, rewards, stickers, posters, charts, art supplies, markers, etc. Best of all, even though our community is in a time
of economic stress, my 22 first graders remain curious, enthusiastic and actively engaged in the learning process. I am fortunate to have committed parents, a #1 class of first graders, and a rewarding and enjoyable occupation! Thank You!"
- Mrs. Stratis, Grade 1

OfficeMax Promotion A Success!
As a result of a promotion that was offered by OfficeMax from December 10, 2008 through January 8, 2009, the Dewing School received $500 in support of 12 classrooms. Thank you to all donors who participated in this promotion!

Anonymous Donations
The Adopt-A-Classroom organization recently upgraded the online donation features.  The online donation form now allows a donor to submit a completely anonymous donation.  ‘Anonymous’ is displayed on the web page instead of the donor’s name.  In addition, the teacher is not aware of the donor’s name or email address.  The donor still receives electronic Impact Reports whenever the teacher purchases something for the classroom.

What teacher inspired you? – A message from Adopt-A-Classroom Founder, Jamie Rosenberg
Is there a teacher in your life who helped shape who you are or made an impact or significant impression on you?
If so, we hope you will share the story with us. To celebrate our 10th Anniversary, Adopt-A-Classroom is collecting inspirational stories about teachers that made a difference in our lives. Tell us about a great teacher you had and a story about how that teacher made an impact on you.

On March 7, 2009, we are having our 10th Anniversary Event. The event will be the filming of the pilot television show "Miami's Got Class?" and will showcase inspirational teachers selected from your story submissions, highlighting the important role teachers play in our lives and in our communities. You will be invited to participate in the production of the show and celebrate with us in the wrap after party. Go to
www.miamisgotclass.com and submit your teacher story today.  Interested in seeing the making of the "Miami's Got Class?" television commercial?

TODAY'S REALITY

Today our students lack access to basic, current classroom supplies such as books, globes/maps, hands-on learning tools, technology, etc. The Adopt-A-Classroom program, founded in 1998, will allow you to help Tewksbury students succeed in the classroom! You can:

WHAT IS ADOPT-A-CLASSROOM?

It’s amazing how much the state of education in the U.S. has drastically changed since we were children! While School Committees struggle with funding, students lack access to basic, current classroom supplies such as books, globes, maps, and hands-on learning tools and technology. Now there is a way for all of us to change this situation and enrich the education for Tewksbury students.

Adopt-A-Classroom is a national non-profit program which invites the community into the classroom in support of our students. By sponsoring a classroom, donors form partnerships with specific groups of students providing financial and moral support. Connections can occur through the donation of funds needed materials or direct service opportunities. The result is a collaboration that supports and celebrates a classroom’s success. Lasting relationships with teachers and students are forged and classrooms are transformed into vibrant centers of learning.

Adopt-A-Classroom is an easy-to-use, efficient web-based program with the following features:

INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING BUT NOT SURE HOW?

Please go online to www.adoptaclassroom.org and check out the classrooms waiting to be sponsored. Several people can get together in support of a classroom. Gifts can be made in memoriam, by extended family, friends, or through a business or corporate program.

This is a great opportunity to help students thrive even in the midst of a financial crisis. As we all know, children learn best when the community works together toward helping students reach their highest potential. Thanks in advance for your support!

- Mrs. Stratis Grade 1

"In the past, I've had to spend a lot of my own money. Some of the items that I purchased are clocks for individual students to use, place value charts to manipulate, fraction games, and much more. Thanks again for your generous donations."
- Grade 3

"AAC has made a huge difference for the staff and children from the Dewing School. Due to budget constraints, more and more of our classroom supplies have been eliminated. The generosity of supporters helps us to maintain a
level of excellence so important as we struggle with ever growing state mandates and "raising of the bar". We thank parents and businesses for their support."
- Mrs. Cintolo Grade 3

"I've purchased a VCR/DVD combo which, along with a donated TV, allows me to show short clips of movies/TV shows that helps visual learners and all students build up their 'fact file' in their brains! I don't have to wheel the bulky TV cart and/or share with 12 other teachers! It's great!"
- Miss Selissen Grade 4

"We love the Adopt-A-Classroom program. We have bought many items that have enriched our classroom environment. For example, we bought a set of classroom clocks and, as we are currently working on time, those clocks have
been a wonderful manipulative, which we feel has made a huge difference in our students' understanding of this concept. We have also purchased items that have enhanced our classroom environment such as bulletin board trimmers. Other items, such as pencil tip erasers, are a necessary item in any classroom. Stickers and incentive charts help to organize our behavior system to make our classroom run more smoothly. We hope this program continues in the future."
- Mrs. Kalyoyanides & Mrs. MacLeod Grade 2

"I love that the parents get an email when I purchase items through AAC! The kids get excited when I tell them 'they helped buy the items'! (It helps us stay connected to the home and community.) I have purchased a new listening center, white boards, 3-ring binders for each student, a math center time activity kit, markers for the children and an art 'clothesline' to display student projects."
 - Mrs. Rodgers Kindergarten

"We were able to combine our AAC donations with help from the PAC to purchase a new overhead projector. The projector is vital to teaching our new reading series, and we are so thankful and appreciative for the help."
- Mrs. McGrath & Mrs. Cloney Grade 3

"AAC is an excellent support system. It has been quite beneficial to my students. I have purchased a CD player, a 4-person listening station, as well as a globe. The CD players have assisted my students in developing fluency in their reading in addition to many other reading skills. The globe is essential to our social studies curriculum as we study map skills. Adopt-A-Classroom is a fabulous program."
